YORKDALE ADULT LEARNING CENTRE |
How
to register at Yorkdale Adult Learning Centre:
Come
to Yorkdale on Letter Day between 8:00 am and 1:00 pm for an appointment
letter.
Letters will be given out in person only, starting
on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 for Quad 2 (Nov. 12 to Jan. 28, 2009)
Next Letter Day: October 28, 2008 (8 am to 1 pm)
NOTE: If you are interested in our Ed-Vance Program the registration process different than other classes at Yorkdale. Click on the Ed-Vance Courses tab at the top of this page for Ed-Vance registration information.
Who
can attend Yorkdale Adult Learning Centre?
Students
who are...
- at least 21 years of age (by December 31, 2008) - no exceptions!
- able to attend a minimum of two hours every day for 45 days
(a nine week quad) Monday thru Friday between 8:00 am and
3:00 am
- students between 18 and 20 years of age may be eligible for our Ed-Vance Program click on the Ed-Vance Courses tab at the top of the page, or see below for more information
Those new to Canada must have...
- Status in Canada (one of the following):
- Canadian
Citizen
- Permanent
Resident

Refugee - with a valid Study Permit (applications available from Main Office)
- facility in reading, writing and speaking in English
Those from any Ontario high school must have...
- a transcript from an Ontario high school

What
is the Registration Process?
- arrive
before 8:00 am and go to the West Gym
- show
the counsellor your appointment letter
- show
the counsellor your Ontario Student Transcript (if you have
one)
- have
all documentation (original and photocopies) available for
your interview
- complete
the registration form (personal information)
- write
an English assessment and
a mathematics assessment
- after
a break, return to the gym to meet a counsellor and discuss
assessment results and register for a program at Yorkdale,
bring a resume
- Co-op,
Child Care Assistant, and Personal Support Worker students
will have an interview to be accepted into their programs
- pay
a $60.00 fee by debit card to cover the registration process and activity
fee and TASA fee
- submit photocopies of Canadian status, select courses and finalize registration
*NOTE
- Some
courses may be full when you register. Be prepared to choose
alternative courses.
- Please
do not bring your children.
- This
process will take up to 5 hours so bring a
light snack, beverage, etc.
School
Calendar and Daily Schedule
- There
are 4 quads (or terms) in the school year 2008 - 2009

1: September 8th - November 10th

4: April 21st - June 22nd
- All
classes are two hours a day, Monday to Friday. You may take
1, 2 or 3 classes per day depending on your personal schedule.
Each two hour class is one credit. Students are expected to be present every day.

Program

into the Registered Practical Nursing Program occurs twice

The Ed-Vance Program at Yorkdale Secondary School
Requirements:
- Students between 18 and 20 years old
- Students should have a minimum of 5 credits
- Students should have at least grade 9 English
- Students who have been away from school for at least one semester
- Students who are committed and serious about learning
