Hairstyling Certificate/Apprenticeship Program

Part 1: In-School Courses

In The TPO2, (2credits), TPE3, (3 credits) and TPE4, (3 credits) Hairstyling Courses You Will Learn:

  • The latest fashion trends in hair cutting and hair styling
  • Texturizing techniques using permanent waves
  • Special effects highlighting and colouring techniques
  • Proper techniques in shampooing and scalp manipulations
  • Thermal and chemical hair straightening or relaxing
  • Professional ethics

Other In-School Courses That Are Part of The Hairstyling Program Are:

  • SNC3E, grade 11 science-science for the workplace; (1 credit)

Other In-School Courses That May be Offered:

  • BMX3E, grade 11 retail marketing; (1 credit)
  • GWL3E, grade 11 designing your future; (1 credit)

Part 2: Out-of-School Co-op Placement in a Licensed Salon

  • In Your Co-op Placement You Will:

    • Practice the skills you have learned in the in-school courses, under the supervision of a qualified hair stylist in a licensed salon
    • Earn 4 credits towards your diploma while honing your skills 360 hours in preparation for completion of apprenticeship
    • Learn job search skills, employment laws, and the culture of the hairstyling salon
    • Develop the confidence to work as a professional hairstylist
    • Prepare a winning resume that highlights your skills
    • Develop the communication skills needed for job interviews
    • Prepare a flexible, realistic career plan
    • Acquire valuable experience in a Canadian hairstyling salon
    • Expand your job network

    Future Opportunities For Licensed Hairstylists:

    • Work in a salon of your choice
    • Set up your own business
    • Enjoy full time or part time work and flexible working hours
    • Be a colour technician
